Erzsebet Pince - 2016 Furmint and Kabar Tokaj Dry
Erzsebet Pince - 2016 Furmint and Kabar Tokaj Dry
I do believe we will be hearing more and more about furmint in the coming years, and there’s a great reason for it: They’re simply phenomenal wines! Hungary, for the last hundred years at least, has been too busy dealing with oppression and corruption to spend their time promoting their amazing wines. Only recently have they even been able to come up for air and give the rest of the world an introduction to some of the best whites I have to offer.
This particular Furmint is aged in barrel and rivals some yummy burgundies (yes, bold statement, I know). It’s really a fabulous wine and perfect to serve in lieu of a Chardonnay and pairs beautiful with a lovely meal. Wine enthusiasts won’t be disappointed.
Fun facts: Erzsébet translates to “Elizabeth” in English and she was the first female winemaker in Hungary… AND the winery was founded in the 1500s. Yup, the 1500s, you heard me! For the record, Furmint and Kabar are the two grape varieties in this wine. “Pince” means winery
Egeszegedre 🥂!
