Grof Degenfeld produces some really fantastic wines and it is time to add this one to the lineup. Unlike the Estate Dry Furmint that you might be familiar with at this point, the Zomborka sees a touch of oak. This takes the flavor profile of the Estate’s citrus notes and adds to these touches of peach/orange/plum and a really pleasant roundness. Still a great summer wine to chill and enjoy with or without food… Don’t mind if I do!

I do believe we will be hearing more and more about furmint in the coming years, and there’s a great reason for it: They’re simply phenomenal wines! Hungary, for the last hundred years at least, has been too busy dealing with oppression and corruption to spend their time promoting their amazing wines. Only recently have they even been able to come up for air and give the rest of the world an introduction to some of the best whites I have to offer.
