Brendel - 2019 Cooper's Reed Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, CA
Black-owned/founded/managed.
Brendel is named for Leon Brendel, a legendary old winemaker known for planting quirky varietals like Grignolino. Brendel makes all of its wines with grapes farmed in Napa and practices low-intervention winemaking. Their message is one of inclusivity and the wines reflect that:
“Brendel doesn’t make fine wine, it makes good wine, “because while fine wine brings some people together, good wine brings everyone together.”
If you're looking for a smack you in the face Napa cab, this isn't it and isn't meant to be. It's a cleanly made pure expression of the Cabernet fruit and PERFECT for warmer weather and almost any food I can think of... Proscuitto maybe?
Aged in large vessels, the minimalist approach that Brendel takes allows Cabernet to fully evolve over the course of the bottle. Truly an adventure from beginning to end…let’s be honest, you aren’t having just one glass.
