Lail Vineyards - 2018 Blueprint Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Accolades below and here’s a quick overview of Founder Robin’s astonishing history in the Napa Valley:
Her great-grand uncle was Gustave Niebaum the founder of Napa’s iconic Inglenook Winery.
Her father was John Daniel Jr. who inherited the great Inglenook winery from his father (and was instrumental in helping put Napa Valley on the wine map in many ways).
Robin co-founded Dominus in 1982 with her sister Marky and famed winemaker Christian Moueix (General Manager of Château Pétrus in Pomerol),
Robin co-founded Merryvale Vineyards with Bill Harlan – where she was President of the winery for 12 years, was general manager at the prestigious Meadowood Resort and was
Robert Mondavi’s personal assistant for a number of years
Bonus: Winemaker is Philippe Melka, one of my faves!
I mean, what a pedigree! Anyhow, it is indeed a really great and smooth Cabernet and an exceedingly fantastic value wine for what’s delivered in the bottle. Cheers 🥂
“A blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot from
a multitude of vineyards, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Blueprint reveals a saturated purple color as well as classic notes of blackcurrants, tobacco, damp earth, chocolate, and hints of new leather. Beautifully balanced, medium to full-bodied, ripe, and textured, it's a smoking good, affordable effort well worth seeking out. It will evolve for 10-15 years or more.”

“A rich, juicy red with lots of blackberry, blueberry and tar character. Medium to full body, velvety tannins and a delicious finish. Some graphite at the end. Mostly cabernet sauvignon but 11% merlot (rare) and 6% petit verdot. Really enjoyable now.”
