Grof Degenfeld - 2016 Dry Furmint
Grog Degenfeld is a fantastic producer of wine in Hungary, and I’m beyond grateful for having had the opportunity to stay on the property during my visit to the Tokaj region. It was unbelievably spectacular. This wine in particular, even before my visit to HU, has always been a go-to of mine in lieu of a Sauvignon Blanc. It has all the things that I look for in an SB but with a little more character. It’s bright, crisp and fresh but just has a little more character to it than you’d typically find in an SB from any region… You’re gonna have to try it!
I do believe we will be hearing more and more about furmint in the coming years, and there’s a great reason for it: They’re simply phenomenal wines! Hungary, for the last hundred years at least, has been too busy dealing with oppression and corruption to spend their time promoting their amazing wines. Only recently have they even been able to come up for air and give the rest of the world an introduction to some of the best whites I have to offer.
Egeszegedre 🥂!
